What really is data virtualization? According to Wikipedia, Data virtualization is any approach to data management that allows an application to retrieve and manipulate data without requiring technical details about the data, such as how it is formatted or where it is physically located. And Cisco have it in rather simpler terms that, Data virtualization is an agile data integration approach organizations use to gain more insight from their data, respond faster to ever changing analytics and BI needs and save 50-75% over data replication and consolidation. In other words, data virtualization provides you with the data, the way you want it, i.e. enterprise, cloud, big data, forensic data, you name it. Peter Tran tries to explain the same in this short video presentation:

Guilt is not a very motivating mechanism either. So if you have a really bad hour, then beating yourself up for the next hour isn’t a great way to pull yourself out of that. You just extend that lack of productivity. Jess Martin

if you want to host Kali in the Cloud I can recommend the host Vultr!
You can prepay your account with PayPal and Bitcoin and fire up a Kali VM in 30 Minutes by “wgetting” the Kali minimal Iso to the hoster and booting via KVM and performing the Kali Installation Routine.
The prices are roughly half of comparable AWS Instances!
So just try it out, setting up a Kali VM and playing around a bit did cost me roughly 19 USD Cents…
You also can see you Account Balance and detailed per Server monthly fees in the Webinterface! If the VM is powered down it does not cost you anything.
Disclaimer: The link above and below are including a referral to my account!
If you like Vultr and stumbled onto it via my blog please use this link to sign up!

Seems like I take the path of most resistance. When you are a beginner/intermediate pretend admin, things like installing a windows image via KVM is tougher than it needs to be. I guess what is frustrating is I’m at the stage where things break I don’t have the answer why. I just have to hack through until it gets fixed despite of myself and limited knowledge. AAAAAAAAAAAAAnnnny way. The first time I tried setting up a windows image, my machine did not recognize the CD. Figuring this would be the case again, I spent 20mins on the webs looking for a windows 7 image and I had no luck. So I looked up a way to create an iso from the disk. I was going to create this iso when I realized KVM sees the disk on my new machine! I spent a better part of an hour trying to…

This guide describes how you can unlink a hard disk from Linux/Unix. This might be useful for instance if you replaced a disk image in Virtual Box or another VM.
WARNING: Do a backup of your virtual machine first or, if you are running on a physical computer, make sure you know what you are doing!
1. Assure the Hard Disk is not mounted
Edit /etc/fstab and assure there is no mount point for any partition of the hard drive.
2. Delete the Partition
Use fdisk as described here.
fdisk [your disk id eg /dev/sdb]
Note: You can find out the disk id by running fdisk -l (and use sudo if there is no output)
In fdisk running, input:
then input (assuming…

Ubuntu is considered as the most popular Linux distro. It is based on Debian, where Debian is famous of its stability. And Linux Mint, which becomes another most popular Linux distro, is based on Ubuntu and Debian. Recently, there are several Linux distros attract my attention.
Firstly, elementary OS, which is based on Ubuntu, is well-known of its aesthetic design. Unlike other distros which were using common desktop environments, for instance GNOME, KDE, Xfce, and LXDE, it uses Pantheon.
Then, deepin, which is also based on Ubuntu, uses its own desktop environment, i.e. Deepin Desktop Environment. The Deepin Desktop Environment is based on HTML5, this is something distinguish.
During the installation, if Chinese language is chosen, then Sogou Pinyin will be installed.
Next is Chromixium OS, which is also based on Ubuntu. It does not use…

As Microsoft has shifted towards a more customer-oriented culture, Microsoft engineers are using social networks, tech communities and direct customer feedback as an integral part on how we make decisions about future investments. A popular request the PowerShell team has received is to use Secure Shell protocol and Shell session (aka SSH) to interoperate between Windows and Linux – both Linux connecting to and managing Windows via SSH and, vice versa, Windows connecting to and managing Linux via SSH. Thus, the combination of PowerShell and SSH will deliver a robust and secure solution to automate and to remotely manage Linux and Windows systems.
SSH solutions are available today by a number of vendors and communities, especially in the Linux world. However, there are limited implementations customers can deploy in Windows production environments. After reviewing these alternatives, the PowerShell team realized the best option will be for our team to adopt an…

It occurred to me recently that after recovering a VIO failed deployment, in my case an issue with one of the database nodes, in the Web Client Plugin the OpenStack Cluster still was in Error state.
After investigating a bit internally and thanks to my colleague Dimitri Desmidt I was able to solve it.
Open an SSH connection as
viouserto the VIO Management Server and elevate to
psqlwith the following command:
/opt/vmware/vpostgres/current/bin/psql -U omsdb
update cluster set status='RUNNING';
After that logout and login back to Web Client and the cluster will be now in Running status.
